After a rain delay of 2 hours, the tournament did finish, but the conditions were really tough.

Heathrow, Florida…Saturday

Here are some results from Heathrow, a Les Grandes Dames event.

40 singles: Mariana Hollman beat Suzanne Siegler, but Frances O’Sullivan correctly noted that Suzanne played well, though Marianna won the longish exchanges. Stacy Williams was battling Rita Gladstone with 30 ball rallies common, it was 3-3 in the 2nd when I left and getting warmer.

50 singles: Chris Ramsower-Pearlstein and I played today, I was up 2-1 and 40-0 in the 2nd set when I could see Chris wake up…the rest of the match was a balle, but I prevailed 60 64 and play Frances O’Sullivan, a winner over Donna Drosner, in the final at 9.

60 singles; Brenda Carter beat Ellen Goodman. Judy Louie played well and won a tough, long 3-setter against Betty Wachob to reach the final.

70 singles: Nancy Reed started slowly, but finished well in her 16 63 62 win over Boots Van Nostrand, the 2nd seed. Burnette Herrick finished with a flourish against Ada Cowan (who narrowly beat Louise Russ the day before, rallying from 1-5 down in the 3rd to win), acing her to finish the match, 64 62.

80 singles: Marilyn Skiffington won the first set from Betty Eisenstein 64 and Betty said Marilyn played well that set, hit winners. That must have made Betty mad…or more determined, because Betty won the next 12 games and the title.

30 singles; It’s a round robin and Trish Riddell and Anzela Zguna seem headed for a showdown.

50 doubles: Margie Cooper and Kerry Young played well to beat Kathy Foulk/Cindy Leprevost 60 63. They play Chris and me in the final.

60 doubles: Wachob/Carter beat Goodman/Carol Clay in the final, straight sets…good points, but Carter/Wachob had the last word in most of them.
