Tennis and 17 Mile Drive

Tracy and I practiced in the morning, getting ready for our first round singles and doubles matches tomorrow. There was much more activity today than yesterday, and the weather was a lot warmer at Chamisal today than yesterday, in the mid-80s, sunny, calm. We drilled singles, played some points and caught up with friends we hadn’t seen for a while.

Then it was time for some sight-seeing. We decided to drive the famous 17-mile drive in Pebble Beach. It was sunny and warm when we arrived at 17 mile drive, but after lunch, the fog rolled in. I had been telling Tracy that sunny warm weather in Pebble Beach was not the norm, that fog could roll in…but she was skeptical. Now she isn’t! The first part of the drive is up in the hills overlooking the ocean. There it was sunny and in the 70s, but by the time we reached the coast it was foggy and 60! We got out and took photos at nearly every stop anyway, and heard and smelled the sea lions and sea otters. At times it was foggy on one side of the road and sunny on the golf course on the inland side of the road. When we reached Pescadero Point, with it’s dead trees and big rocks, it was eerie. The scenery is spectacular, sun or fog on the granite rocked coastline. We ended our tour at the Lodge at Pebble Beach, and walked inside to see the view. It was mostly sunny there and as I was getting ready to take a photo, I said, “that woman is blocking the view”…then, that looks like Brenda Carter. Tracy said she thought so too…and it was…small world. She’s the top seed at Chamisal in the 65s.

On the drive back, it was like a different world…the fog had receded and the views were magnificent.
