Jerry Kirk Passing

From Hugh Thomson, Jerry’s longtime friend and doubles partner:

Several things have taken shape since the last update. First  – there will be a service for Jerry at Peachtree Presbyterian (3434 Roswell Rd NE, Atlanta ) at 1 pm on Thursday, Jan 12, 2012.  In particular, Barry Conway, with the assistance of some others, has  spearheaded putting this service together to remember Jerry.
Following the service there will be a remembrance gathering at Hooters ( 2977 Cobb Pkwy SE ). For those who knew Jerry well, this is a fitting venue as he spent many hours at this Hooters location and others across the nation. Jerry’s good friend Kelly Hall has been very helpful in arranging this event,  If you have a couple of Jerry stories you would like to share with those present, please feel free to tell them ( limit of two as  some of us could fill up an hour on Jerry anecdotes ). Or if you cannot be there or prefer not to tell your story in person, and would like someone to read  your memory of Jerry, please email me.
A memorial fund has been established. The Jerry Kirk Memorial Fund at the Bank of North Georgia, c/o  Kelly Green 334 E Paces Ferry Rd, Atlanta,Ga  30305  for anyone that would like to remember Jerry this way. Ann and Thornton DeRosa  have been the movers in establishing this fund.
There will be an event to honor Jerry at Bitsy Grant in early spring ( dates to be announced ) and another event at the Atlanta Senior Invitational in early May ( details still forming ). It has also been suggested that the backboard at Bitsy Grant be named as the Jerry Kirk backboard or a plaque put up as Jerry spent thousands of hours perfecting his forehand there.   Jerry would announce  he had a " new awesome "  forehand a couple of times a week and he had found it on Bitsy’s backboard. Mostly they turned out to be a work in progress and he would revert back to the old forehand when he played.
I am also attaching the two published obituaries. The first was in the Atlanta Journal and Constitution Jan 7, 2012 and was compiled by several of Jerry’s friends. The second obit was published at   supersenior.info   in the forum section . This is a great website and resource for senior men ( sorry ladies, but  carolynnichols.com   is a great tennis site for women and men ) run by Alan Messer, a national tournament player who knew Jerry.

There are two attachments below with further information about Jerry.
