USA women’s 50s beat Germany 2/1 to advance to the final. Shelly Works came back from a set and 4/1 down to win at #2 singles. That set the stage for the #1 singles match, won by Fran Chandler who simply played great to clinch the tie. They play France tomorrow.
In the women’s 55 the USA won the bronze over France. Susan Wright won at #2 singles over Betty Michel 62 62; Diane Barker had 2 match points on Catherine Suire at #1 but Suire hit winners and at 5-5 Barker popped a calf. That set the stage for doubles which Eright/Vicki Buholz won 62 61.
The men’s 50s fell 2/1, splitting the singles and losing the doubles. They play France tomorrow.
The USA men’s 55 fell to France today, dropping both tightly contested singles matches.
We play early tomorrow, instead of at 3pm.. 7:15 bus instead of 1pm bus so I will post photos tomorrow.
I did successfully get to the venue today after downloading the schedule of stops, none of which are easily remembered. The route from the bus took me on this verdant path. The outdoor courts, omniturf and red clay are shown below.
