It took seven hours, seven sets played, overcoming cramping, windy conditions and their determined French opponents, but USA edged France 2/1 to medal in that division for the first time since 2014.
Jennifer Dawson started fast but ended up in a dogfight against a persistent retriever, and the tricky wind before winning 61 46 64. Julie Cass was then edged by another steady and quick Frenchwoman 64 76.

The Dubler Cup fell 3/0 to Great Britain.
