Another Rainy Day at the Clay Courts; McColskey/Karwasky to Meet for 60s Final and Wachob/Anderson to Play 70s Final

It’s a soggy week in the South and Huntsville is lucky to be on the northern end of the rain storms. It stopped raining just after 6am today, but the courts weren’t playable till 3pm! They were saturated and too soft for the court maintenance crews to even get onto the courts to try and dry them.

We finally did get on at 3pm for 9am singles matches. Doubles, other than the 80s round robin (the 80s singles is finished) were cancelled for the second straight day.

I lost to Wendy McColskey who played very well. She plays Tina Karwasky in the final in a repeat of last year’s final. She won 62 62 over Sherri Bronson. Sherri and I play for third tomorrow, weather permitting, though it looks like we might be ok.

In the 70s, there were no upsets and Cathie Anderson beat Lee Delfausse in straight sets and plays her doubles partner, Betty Wachob, who took out Susan Kimball (who completed her upset of Sheila Weinstock earlier in the day).

Mary John Lynch finished 3rd in the 80s, completing a rain delayed win over Esther Williams 62 75.

Below are photos of some of the courts about 11am, five hours after the rain had stopped.
