First Hit on the Red Dirt

My hotel as it ends up is a little over a mile from the Club…a pleasant walk, if NOT carrying a heavy tennis bag…mine is always heavy though. I walked this morning down to the club around 11am and the first person I saw was Petra Kruger from So Africa, a former world singles and doubles champion, who was itching to hit. So we had a good practice…Petra doesn’t miss many balls! We met up with some Aussie players after and chatted a bit, then went back to my hotel, and sans tennis bag, walked back towards the courts to see what was happening later in the day (not much). The club is right next to the university here, but the area is pretty quiet. I met up later with Petra for dinner, finally figuring out the bus schedule (it stops right in front of the hotel), but walked back later…buses stop running just after 8pm here.

I play on Friday, so tomorrow will scope out my possible opponents, hit some tennis balls and perhaps try to see something of downtown Klagenfurt or the Worthersee.

  1. Thanks for the update and good luck on your first round. I know you’ll make us all proud. Looking forward to more reports of your adventures traveling the world. Hope to see Susan Wright and Mary Daily play in my neck of the woods. It’s same times as the Denver Open, but hope to get to see them play. love rita
