Fishburne Wins European Championships

Diane Fishburne of Folley Beach, S.C. won the 2005 European Championships in Baden Baden, Germany. This prestigious event is played on red clay and is a Tier I event for ITF ranking purposes. Seeded #1, she beat Bettina Weggemann of Germany, Claudia Thomalla-Adam of Germany (the 2003 champion here) and Barbora Koutna of the Czech Republic. She also reached the doubles final in the 40/45 division. She played with Gouveia and they upset the #1 seeds, Froehlich/Faschingbauer of Germany before losing to the #2 seeds, Shaposhnikova (Russia)/Mattel (France) in the final.
