Forest Hills Update

Patricia Zerdan restored order in the 30s with a straigh set win over unseeded Shareen Lai yesterday.

In the 70s, the top 4 seeds advanced to the quarters. Tomorrow Roz King takes on last year’s finalist Burnette Herrick while Dori deVries, who, in contrast to last year’s 3 set battle, moved smoothly past Nancy Reed, takes on Carol Wood.

In the doubles though, Reed/King scored a straight set upset over Langer/Lyn Tietz to reach the semis.

The 50s had only one minor upset today, Mary Ginnard beat Sherri Bronson in 2 close sets to reache the semis. It was her first win over Bronson on grass in 3 tries. She joins the top 3 seeds, Wright, Fritz and Karwasksy in the semis.

Brenda Carter/Suella Steel beat the defending champions, Mary Wilson/Betty Wachob, in straight sets in the final, 75 61. It was Brenda’s third win in three tries in the 60 doubles this year…she’ll be going for a gold slam in doubles next month at the indoors. She is also in the singles semis against Judy Louie who bested Mary Wilson 64 62. Wachob and Steel will meet in the other semi.
