Gulf Breeze, Wednesday

Play started late due to rain in the morning, but the courts were ready to go a little before 1pm…that’s the good news…the bad news is that it started raining again about 3:30 and play was suspended for the day.

Tracy Viebrock finally won a marathon match against Mary Johnson, 24 hours after the match commenced, rallying from 02 down in the third (where they started the 3rd set today) to win it 75. After a brief break she started her quarterfinal match with Susan Wright, and is tied at 2-2. The remaining quarterfinal matches finished. Russell was flawless against Debbie Burgess, winning 60 60; Diane Fishburne beat Leslie Murveit 62 61, and according to Leslie, every time she had a sniff at a game point, Diane would hit a winner, often on the line…business as usual for Diane. I beat Chris Ramsower-Pearlstein.

In the 40s, no matches were completed before it rained Vesna McKenna is up a set and 51 against Patricia de Mahieu. Sue Kaleel is leading a set and 32 against Erika Smith. Amy Alcini is up 51 against Kim Cashman (who beat last year’s finalist, Anna Zimmerman in a marathon match late yesterday). Trudy Vermeer, a big, very hard hitter is up against Renata, 52, first set. Vesna McKenna and Debbie Croft supplied this information.
