La Jolla Saturday

The Men’s finalists are set. Peter Smith powered his way past Eoin Collins 63 75, rallying from 03 down in the 2nd set. He broke to go up 54 in the second, one of 3 straight breaks, but successfully served it out the 2nd time. Jeff Greenwald played a tightly controlled game against Failla, who beat Smith in last year’s final, winning 61 61.

Nideffer won the singles 41 ret. over Alcini who appeared to have a sore arm. DeLara beat Settles 63 63 for the bronze.

Magers/nideffer won the doubles comfortably over Smith/Finerman, handing them their only loss of the year.

Tarabinii/Tarango won the mixed over Kepler (aka ironman or I entered too many events) and Smith. Rick Kepler played singles, doubles, mixed and father/son and reached the semis in all but singles, where he lost first round. He played 5 matches Friday and 4 Thursday and Saturday. He and son Jordan upset the Van’t Hofs in father/son.

Tracie Currie won 2 bronze balls, in doubles with Russell (no she has not moved to Vegas…still living in Calabasas) and mixed with Marting.

The tournament concludes today.
