Landauer, Cheney Score at Rockaway

Brian Cheney is one title away from a singles/doubles Gold Slam in the 60s. He beat his doubles partner, Bob Litwin in the grass final in three sets then combined with him to win the doubles over the Bohannon brothers 64 61. The champions had a tough three setter against Newman/Rush in the semis, winning 61 in the third. From Bob Litwin:

"Cheney was serving 3rd game 3rd set
leading 40-0, I got back to break point and had 11 ads and he had 4 game points. He escaped but it was one of the best games either of us had ever played at
such an important moment."

Phil Landauer had to overcome match points to put away Geoff Cykman in the semis of the 55 singles, winning 75 in the third, then went three sets again in winning the final over Tom Smith. Landauder also won the doubles, with Smith,  over Scott/Walther 76 76.
