Mexico City, Friday Morning

I arrived in Mexico City Thursday morning. It’s my first time in Mexico…I’ve never even driven across the border from San Diego. Mexico City is at a pretty high altitude, over 7000 feet, and judging by the scenery flying in, very dry. The infamous smog was present up against the hills. But the sun shone brightly and it was warm, and the jacaranda trees are in full bloom.

The US teams are staying in the Zona Rosa (Pink Zone) area of Mexico City. I walked around and there’s a mix of fast food (Subway, Burger King, Wendy’s McDonalds are all within a 5 min walk along with 7-11 and Circle K), antique shops (an entire mall of them) and other restaurants and shops.

Sherri Bronson, my teammate from the Connolly Cup (women’s 55) and Susan Wright, Tracey Thompson and Robin Harris arrived in the afternoon. We are booked to practice this morning and this afternoon on clay at a club that is about an hour by bus from the hotel. We walked around the area which really was crowded the later it got and tried to read the Spanish menus…Robin and I did anyway…

Most of the US players arrive today, will write more after I see how hitting at such high altitude goes. It is going to be fast and high bouncing, but we are using Head Pressureless balls which should offset some of the speed and bounce. IMG_7010 IMG_7013 IMG_7000 IMG_7005 IMG_7009
