Opening Ceremonies, Day 2 Practice, World Team Championships 2022

Team USA players are here.

Photos are here.

Draws are here.

Saturday was our last practice day as we begin play tomorrow morning.

Susan, Diane, Bunnie and I played doubles, then dispersed. I did some shoulder exercises and attended the captains’ meeting for the Godfree Cup. We are in a group of 12 teams which are divided into four three-team groups. We will play the other two teams in our group, first Portugal tomorrow, then Austria on Monday. If we win our round robin group then we will play the winner of the group which has Germany as the #3 seed. France is the #2 seed and Great Britain #4.

We are playing our matches at the Club at Quail Ridge which is nice. We practiced there yesterday and I play doubles there often, so it’s a comfortable location for me anyway. The courts are good and the facility is quiet. The men’s 65 and women’s 85 teams will be there as well.

We have the first warm up tomorrow, at 10:30 am, for 20 minutes, and start play at 11:30am. We play #2 singles, then #1 singles, then doubles.

After the Captains’ meeting I worked on this blog for a while, then we started organizing teams for photos. The teams were cooperative and we got photos of all 10 teams and a group photo too. Check out the photo link for many more photos of the teams.

After the photo session we had opening ceremonies…a parade of nations onto two tennis courts, some speeches by the organizers and County of Palm Beach officials, the singing of the national anthem, then a cocktail party with empanadas.
