A final crash of thunder, and on its heels was the announcement that the first day of the 31st ITF Super Senior World Team Championships was finished, at about 4:15 local time. Tomorrow the Tuesday matches will go on as planned, with today’s matches to follow…unless there’s more heavy rain early in the day..
The USA Marble Cup team won today, beating Switzerland, though the doubles has not yet been played. Martha Downing won at #2 and just before the lightning and rain stopped play for the day, Kerry Young also finished, at #1. The Godfree Cup team won decisively over South Africa, with Betty Wachob winning 60 60 at #2 singles and Brenda Carter playing #1, winning with the loss of only one game. The remaining USA teams had the day off but all ten USA teams will be playing tomorrow.
