Abbi Neuthaler took the photos showing below, and promptly had a disk made and gave it to me…thank you Abbi.
Play continued today…no rain, cool, breezy weather. In the 40s, a tough local player, Kim Cashman, upset #2 seeded Susie Brown 75 64. Top seeded Jami Patterson withdrew due to illness the day before, so this leaves the draw without any seeds in singles. Brown, combined later with Betsy Savitt, (filling in for Patterson) to beat Catherine Taylor/Tracy Viebrock in an interesting three set win. Brown and Savitt constantly attacked forward, while Taylor hit heavy topspin from the baseline and Viebrock roamed up and back. They face Cashman/Olson in the final, who upset the #2 seeds, Neuthaler/Lumia in the other semi.
In the 50s, the match of the day was the contentious battle (the players in the 60s match next to them requested an umpire be sent to the court because their discussions were so loud) between #4 seed Suzanne Siegler and Carolyn Franca. Franca, displaying excellent groundstrokes, overcame a set and 45 deficit to beat Siegler 46 76 62. Shefaces Rita Giles tomorrow while Carolyn Nichols plays Kerry Young. The seeds prevailed as well in the 50 doubles.
Andrea Martin of Canada and Florida beat 4th seeded Pat Keleman, 63 62. She plays Brenda Carter next. Brenda beat Judy Louie and her 2 new knees in a well played match, 61 62. Anne Guerrant faces Carol Clay in the other semi.
Semis in the 50s, 60s, 70s are set for tomorrow in singles and doubles; final of 40 doubles and semis of 40 singles are also going on tomorrow along with some RR matches and consolation.
