You can’t win them all! (I mean if Rafa can lose on clay, anything is possible.) Pat Yeomans and Jean Harris took the inaugural national women’s 90 doubles title with a 62 63 win over Bea Greene and Dodo Cheney today in La Jolla. It was Pat’s 10th gold ball. Jean also won the silver in singles this week. These ladies are really an inspiration to us all, true examples of tennis as a sport of a lifetime. It’s very interesting to speak with them, Pat is a tennis historian and has lots of great stories about the early days of senior tennis. She was instrumental in getting the older age divisions added (older as in 50 and over women) back in the 70s, as was Dodo.
The feed-in was completed today too.
Chris Ramsower-Pearlstein placed 5th, beating Frances O’Sullivan 62 63 in the FIC final.
Sheila Johnson placed 5th in the 60s with a default win over Carol Clay (food poisoning).
Chris Smith was to play Burnett Herrick in the 70 consolation final, no score yet reported.
June Gay beat Marion Tyrell to place 5th in the 80s.
In 60 doubles, Liane Bryson, Carol Gay beat Jane Pang/Anne Russ to place 5th.
In the 70 doubles, Jane Buffington/Canby won the consolation final over Morgan/Wurden.
The 80 consolation winners were Irene Shepard/Pyachart Hussey over Barth/Howard 62 60.
