Zerdan, Hall/Mason Win Final Gold Balls in Houston

Patricia Zerdan beat Jennifer Toney 61,64 to win her fifth straight 35s national championship. It was Toney’s first 35s final. Michelle King took the bronze with a decisive win over Lenora Grimshaw.

In the 85s, Elaine Mason and Cathie Hall, Gold Slammers in 2010, continued unbeaten, taking out Hallowell/Price 62 60 in the final RR match.

There were lots of consolation matches today. Pat Purcell edged Chris Pearlstein 76(0) 64…rallying from 0-5 in the first set to go up 6-5 before Chris rallied to force a tiebreak. She will take on Chieko Holt in the consolation final.

Cindy Babb/sue Bramlette beat the 4th seeds, Jan Kirkland-Cochran/Becky Holland to reach the consolation final against B’An Gabelt/Debbie Burgess.

In the 65s, Judy Louie withstood an onslaught of forehand winners by Anne Russ to win 75 in the third. She will take on Leslie Pixley in the final. Elizabeth Barnhill/Sherri Ploor won the consolation 65 doubles.

In 45 singles, Gerda Preissing is slated to play Kim Cashman in the FIC final. In the 75s, Mary Boswell will play Boots Van Nostrand.
