35s: Texas vs Southern For the Title; 45s: SoCal vs Southern For the Trophy

The story of the day was RAIN! It rained all day in Boca Raton. The eight teams playing in the semis of the 35s and 45s were on hold till noon at which time it rained again. I had just driven back up from Fort Lauderdale and knew it was dry at the club there. I mentioned this to the tournament referee and when it started raining again, Carol Clay was on the phone successfully getting courts for the matches. It rained all the way down till about 5 miles north of Ft. Lauderdale and it stopped!

We got to the Lauderdale Tennis Club (where I have my condo) and the courts were dry and in great shape. I was playing #1 singles for the 35s against Texas…ie I was playing Patricia Zerdan, who was a finalist at the worlds this year in the 35s. We were playing no ad and 10 point tiebreak in lieu of third set for the scoring format. I lost 62 62. At #2, Q Lee lost 64 62 to Julie Cass and at #3, Deb Higa lost 62 76 (2). So SoCal lost to Texas. In the doubles both matches went to match tiebreaks an SoCal lost both matches.

Southern edged Florida in the other semi 3/2.

In the 45s, Southern beat Florida 41; the sole Florida win was Jenny Klitch beating Jolene Watanabe.
Southern Cal beat Mid Atlantic 50 in the other semi.
