On a very busy day at the 40 Hard Courts in La Jolla, but again under sunny skies and warm weather, Amy Frazier won her first seniors gold ball, beating defending champion Dina McBride 61 63 in the final. Frazier’s hard hit ball, combined with excellent angles and good court coverage overwhelmed McBride. Both players want to come back next year and Dina vowed to train harder before next year’s event.
The doubles final was between Debbie Spence Nasim/Tracie Currie, who won the 45 Hard just a few weeks ago and Jenny Rens/Jennifer Dawson. They had really good points. Nasim is a great strategist in addition to being a terrific player. She holds the ball on her racquet so long and just freezes the net player, and anyone who has played with or against Jenny Rens knows that it’s not easy to freeze her at the net! Currie played good, attacking tennis and Jennifer Dawson was a wall at the baseline, despite being pretty tired for six sets of tennis the day before and a singles match in the morning! Spence Nasim/Currie won the match 64 63.
Father/Son and Grandfather/Grandson started today and there were tons of matches. There are some really good players in the father/son. The Smiths are below, Riley in blue and Peter in white.
There was a great player party tonight too.
I have an early night, so that’s it for now. Men’s semis of singles and doubles final tomorrow along with the mixed final.
YOU are the Champion!!!
