Bleakley, Smashey/Thu Win 35s Crowns Sunday in Houston

Draws are here.

The final gold balls of the 2023 Clay Court Championships in Houston were awarded on Sunday in Houston.

The 35 singles gold went to unseeded Kristen Bleakely, who didn’t drop a set in winning the singles tournament. She beat top-seeded Kaysie Smashey in the final 64 64 before a boisterous crowd cheering for the HRC pro (Smashey), 64 64. Bleakley beat the #4, 2 and 1 seeds en route to the title.

Smashey gained a measure of revenge in doubles, teaming with 45s champion Julie Thu to beat # 5 seeded Bleakley/Vikki Dudley 61 62.

Mylene Martin took the singles bronze while #3 seeds Bryn Auld/Mimi Tran took the doubles bronze.

And that’s a wrap on this year’s version of the 35-90 Women’s Clay in Houston. Great tournament for all players.
