Chris Bennett won the 55 indoors in Boise last month over last year’s top player, Phil Landauer 61 62. In the semis Bennett had to go the distance to oust Geoff Cykman while Landauer’s opponent and doubles partner Tom Smith retired against him when up a set. Cykman beat Smith in 3 sets for the bronze. Landauer/Smith, gold slam winners in 2008, beat Butorac/Rettenmeier in straight sets to retain their doubles crown. Abel/Morgain won the bronze over Cykman/Walther 76 in the third. Cykman actually ended up pushing Bennett in singles, Butorac/Rettenmeier and Abel/Morgan all to 76 in the third, but fell at the end in all three matches…so close yet so far.
