Today I played the singles and doubles semis (with Sabine Schmitz).
I played Carmen Chillida-Belzunce from Spain, the 4th seed and won to advance to the final against unseeded Katrin Dippner (who beat Sabine, the 2nd seed, in the quarters). We knew she would. be a dangerous floater! She beat British player Diana Smith 3,2.
In doubles we played Christiane Deryckre of Belgium and Jenny Chin of Great Britain. Chin likes to hit her first serve and forehand as hard as possible…fortunately for us not enough went in the court. Christiane has a heavy forehand herself (but a steadier one). We were given used balls for this match (and yesterday’s match), but once we requested new balls they were provided right away. We won 60 62 and play Smith/Pat Wire in the final.
For dinner Sabine invited me to join a group at Aguait Tennis Club, which has an excellent restaurant and we had paella, which was very good as was the company.
