Graydon Nichols Defends 85 Singles Title

Graydon Nichols successfully defended his 85 singles title at the Morgan Run Country Club today. He beat Louis Stephenson in the final 61 63. He has won the singles title at Morgan Run 6 out of the past 8 years. Bob Seymour took the bronze.

In the 80s, Russell Seymour and George McCabe will meet up in a rematch of the indoor final from last week. They already met today in doubles, with Seymour and Chang turning the tables in McCabe/Olson this week to take the gold. Both teams were unseeded.

Lester Sack was impressive in dismissing Bob Duesler on the extremely slow courts at Morgan Run, 61 61. the points and games were long, the score was not indicative of the closeness of the match. Dueler combined later though with Jim Nelson and had better luck in doubles, ousting Dick Doss/John Powless. Sack will face Herm Ahlers, a 63 76 winner over Larry Sears, in the singles final. It will be a style contrast between the very tall Ahlers, who plays aggressively and Sack who is smaller and quick.
