Hong Kong: The Typhoon Haima Hits

The plan was to go to Shenzhen today. But then Mother Nature intervened and the trip is delayed till tomorrow and the tournament won’t start till Sunday now.

This was the view last night:

This is the view now:

The storm peaked somewhere around noon. I’m on the 22nd floor (more or less…in Hong Kong no floors with a “4” in them appear). The building is rather narrow. It was shaking from about 11:30 to 1pm, sort of felt like a gentle earthquake or a boat, and I was getting seasick! At least I didn’t have to worry about flooding. But now it’s just pouring. The plan is still to go to Shenzhen tomorrow and the rain is supposed to clear out tomorrow.

The streets are deserted and only a few cars are on the roads though apparently the subway is still working.

So tomorrow the adventure continues.

  1. Wow! There is a pro from my club who is in China now working with the Chinese Tennis Association with the top juniors. He may also be in Shenzen – his name is Jeff Bearup – you may just bump into him. He’s a little sticky in his 50’s & had dark hair. It would be unbelievable if you see him!
    Have fun & good luck!
