After the conclusion of the first weekend at the BNP Paribas Open, many of the top Americans are moving on to the second week on the tournament.
Saturday was a day when there were many top players competing. Andy Roddick was playing against Lucas Kubot. Roddick won in three sets, 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-3. The world’s No. 1 player in the world, Novak Djokovic, made quick work of Andrey Golubev winning 6-3, 6-2. Andy Murray of Great Britian was upset against Spain’s Guillermo Garcia Lopez. Murray could not return the ball when Garcia-Lopez served and Garcia-Lopez won 6-4, 6-2. In the American draw, John Isner, Mardy Fish, and the Bryan Brothers advanced.
On the women’s side of the draw, Caroline Wozniacki won in straight sets 6-2, 6-0 over Ekaterina Makarova. Maria Sharapova was in action against Gisele Dulko 6-2, 6-0 in a quick match of 66 minutes.
Starting Sunday at the BNP Paribas Open in the desert, Juan Martin del Potro, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer all advanced with easy matches to move on to the second week of the tournament.
On the women’s side, the big upset was American Christina McHale beat Russian Petra Kvitova.
Also, many of the top players in the world held autograph sessions for the many fans that were there for both of the days of the weekend.
