Larry Turville Wins Men’s 60 Hard Courts: Brian Cheney/Phil Landauer Take Doubles Title

Larry Turville sailed through the field at the men’s 60 Hard Courts, barely breaking a sweat despite temperatures in the mid-90s by the week’s end. He beat Paul Wulf in the final 62 61. Wulf beat Doug Ruffin in one semi while Turville finished off Wesley Jackson in the other semi. Jackson outlasted Ruffin to win the bronze. Wulf upset #2 seeded Brian Cheney 4,3 in the quarters. #3 seeded Phil Landauer went down in the round of 16, after leading by a set an 4/0 against Mario Cernousek…losing the last 12 games. However, Cheney and Landauer rallied after their singles defeats, beating last year’s champions, Tommy Connell/Tony Dawson in three sets. Bill Mattews/Wulf took the bronze.
