Mallorca Tuesday

Each night about 7pm, the times for the next day are published…for singles. The doubles times are published at 8am the morning of play. That’s when you find out at which site you are playing and at what time. Practice courts are available from 8-8:50 in 25 minute increments, four players to a court. The tournament has been scheduling days off as well, in the women’s draws.

Today I played Margreth Beyer from Germany, a good player who beat the 5th seed yesterday. We had some great, long rallies, but I prevailed 61 61. I play Sabine Schmitz from Germany in the semis. She is also unseeded. She had a tussle with Gr Britain’s Ann Brown, (who took out the 3rd seed on Monday, 75 60), but won 64 76. I don’t know if the semis will be tomorrow or Thursday. We also should start the doubles tomorrow, we are in the quarters, but the entire draw had the day off today. All the draws, including doubles, are now posted here: http://www.mallorca-seniors.de/results/2011/index.htm

The other Americans has mixed results, mostly positive. Hugh Thomson and Michael Beautyman both advanced to the quarters, Beautyman winning 62 62 over the 8th seed and Thomson winning in three sets again. Beautyman plays the 4th seed and Thomson 3rd seed tomorrow. George Sarantos won 63 63 to advance to the quarters in the 70 singles. Greg Shephard and Sarantos narrowly lost in doubles, after being up a set and 5-0. It’s clay! Pam Schultz won her consolation singles match, plays next the 2nd seed in the consolation, and last year’s semi finalist, a German player.

The times have been posted, no singles tomorrow, but we probably play doubles (will know at 8am), since the tournament ends on Friday and we have only 3 days left in the tournament.
