Oldsmar Senior Super Category 2 Tournament Attracts National Field

OLDSMAR – Some of the top-ranked senior professional women tennis players in the country will play in the Les Grandes Dames Spring Cup at East Lake Woodlands Country Club March 2-6.

The women range in age from 30 to late 70s and will play in age-specific categories in singles and doubles for prize money. Most players are in their 50s. The tournament, at the country club’s tennis center, is free and open to the public. It is a USTA (The United States Tennis Association) National Category II event.

Karen Olson, a tennis pro at East Lake Woodlands, who will play in the tournament and is helping organize it, said 75 or more players are expected. Among them are Carol Clay of Fort Lauderdale and Kerry Young of Maitland, whose USA team won the Alice Marble Cup at the 30th International Tennis Federation Super Senior Women’s International championships in Turkey in October of 2010. It was the first time a USA team won that cup since 1997. Both women are nationally ranked players in their 60s.

East Lake Woodlands Country Club’s Tennis Center is at 1055 East Lake Woodlands Parkway in Oldsmar. For more information, call 727-785-2212.
