Sunday in Cologne: Essen-Cologne-Düsseldorf: Team Match, Köln Don, Rhein Crossing

A busy Sunday began in Essen, where we check out of the hotel, then drove to Cologne for a match with Club Grun-Gold Bensberg e.V. After the match we drove to the old town near the Cologne Cathedral. After that, we drove to Düsseldorf, where we stated in an airport hotel because we had an early flight to Budapest.

Our team played well and we won 6/0. I played singles and doubles (with Sabine). Vicki Buholz had some good practice with Carole DeBruin. After the match, we had a meal with our opponents. We had beautiful pizzas.

We left around 4 PM to visit the Cologne area near the cathedral. We walked around the cathedral and inside where a mass was being held with lovely organ music.

After leaving the cathedral, we walked across the Rheine River, and then along the river to another bridge. It was Sunday so all the stores were closed, and there were many families and children, enjoying the beautiful weather. The cafés were busy as were the ice cream shops.

We left around 7 PM to go to Düsseldorf. We stayed at an airport hotel there and then early this morning. Left to catch our 6:25 AM flight to Budapest.

It was a really fun Sunday with good friendship. The team we played was lovely and the club was gorgeous, set in a park like location.

This week we’re playing in an ITF Masters 1000 in Budapest. More about that later today.
