USA Margaret Court Cup Falls to Spain in Cape Town; Plays for Bronze Thursday or Friday

The USA Margaret Court Cup team played a strong Spanish team and fell 2/1. Spence-Nasim lost at #2 singles and Jennifer Dawson fought hard in a 63 75 loss at #1. Cass/Spence-Nasim won the doubles point. They play #2 seeded France for the bronze Thursday or Friday. France was upset by South Africa. Petro Kruger told me a few days back that the South African 45s team was really strong…she was right!

In other Cups:

Italia Cup: USA played Turkey in the 9-12th place playoffs. No results yet (I’ll update this later today or tomorrow)

Tony Trabert Cup: USA fell to Argentina 3/0. Michael Chang was edged at #2 singles 64 75 but Mark Tepes had to retire in singles down 60 31. Argentina won the doubles point too.

Dubler Cup: USA went into the main draw (1-8) as a “lucky loser” and fell 3/0 to France. Eoin Collins though made his French opponent work hard for the win, falling 63 75.

Lenglen Cup: USA played GBR today but so far no result. Ireland is the third team in their three team round robin group, with the teams fighting for 4th place.
