The USA Margaret Court Cup team beat Argentina today 3/0 behind the singles play of Debbie Spence Nasim at #2 and Nancy Hilliard at #1. Spence Nasim/Julie Cass won the doubles point.
The USA Lenglen Cup team had a day off, while the USA Young Cup team rebounded from their defeat yesterday to pummel Turkey 3/0. the team only lost one game; Millie Yablonicky won at #2 singles, Fanny Gamble at #1 and Simona Bruetting/Tracie Currie finished the sweep with a doubles win.
The Men’s Italia Cup team was upset by Russia 2/1 today. Stuart Duncan won the sole point, winning 61 61 at #2 singles over Leonid Mazo. However that was the sole bright spot as Russian #1 Mikhail Elgin beat Marcio Pepe 62 63 at #1 singles and Elgin/Mazo beat Francois Castejon/Robert Kuseski 62 62 to take the doubles point.
The USA Tony Trabert Cup beat Canada 3/0. Since Canada got a point off of the top seed in the USA’s group, Germany, this bodes well for tomorrow’s final round robin match. Mark Tepes at #2 beat Jason Christie 63 64; at #1, Chris Groer clinched the win with a hard fought three setter over Brian Ahlberg 61 26 76 and Michael Chang/Chris Sanni won the doubles point over Christie/Cameron Cross 64 76.
The Dubler Cup team beat India 3/0, assuring themselves of at least a 2nd place finish in their group. Curtis Dunn was today’s workhorse, winning at #2 singles and combining with Gerrit Disbergen to take the doubles point. Eoin Collins clinched the tie with a straight set win at #1 singles.
