Wimbledon!

I arrived in London on Monday afternoon and met up with a friend from Florida, Vesna McKenna. Yesterday we went to Wimbledon. We had Centre Court tickets, just above and to the right of the Royal Box. They are excellent seats but there don’t seem to be any bad seats. There aren’t any sky boxes at Wimbledon, the sponsor suites are underneath the stadium.  The first match we watched was…Serena vs Sabine Lisiki. Lisiki competed well from the get go and Serena was a bit agitated and tight. But she loosened up and Lisiki did too (in a bad way) will 30 second set…at which point Serena had won 9 games in a row…so we went to watch Sloane Stevens play Monica Puig as they were in a tight 3 setter. We ended up seeing the end of Stevens” match (she won obviously) and the end of Serena’s match (from Henman Hill) and also the 2nd set of Taylor Townsend’s match (playing in the juniors, the lefty hitting a backhand below)…we could see Stevens, Townsend and the big screen all at once.

It was quite crowded and the weather was good, warm but not hot…on the Tube back to the hotel we saw once English girl with a face the color of a red begonia (obviously she forgot her sunscreen!).

We also saw Murray (crowd favorite of course, they even did the wave for him, halfheartedly though)/Youzny (great backhand!) and Djokovic (backboard man) vs Haas (ageless one).

Wimbledon is quite different from the US open…quieter, dressier, and the people are excellent at queuing for anything..no line cutting is attempted. The grounds are beautiful, grass courts always are pretty and there are purple and white flowers everywhere.

More later, off to more tennis!
