A Last Tennis Day in Turkey

Sunday was another all-day tennis fest at Ali Bey Manavgat with Aussie, Swiss, Irish, American, NZL, Canadian, and German players sharing the courts. I’ve been there many times and probably played more this week than I ever did playing on a Cup team, since the courts mostly were empty all day. There were lots of employees on site but they didn’t have much to do since the resort is pretty empty.

I hit with Susan Wright in the morning, we took team photos of the five Americans and others with Swiss and Irish plates, then Jenny Rens, Susan and I went to sort out our bills and that of others. There is a 24 hour advance notice required to change rooming situations and a 7-day notice required to cancel (or a fee of three nights is imposed). The latter applied even for those who didn’t know till Wednesday night that the event had been cancelled. Jenny and I had paid through the end of the event so went to get our refund processed and I paid for one of my teammates (who has already reimbursed me) so she didn’t have to do a wire transfer.

That out of the way we went for lunch and for the first time this week fish was served…some trout or trout-like fish, served whole including the head. It was very good albeit a bit bony.

After lunch I played some singles and doubles, we took photos of the USA players in matching shirts then in matching jackets, went to the gym, and when it closed, to an artificial grass area to stretch. The humidity is very low, around 23-25% here and though warm during the day, it’s very cold in the evenings.

Above…I had Coke Zero and Jenny enjoyed an ice cream before tennis round 2..both of us had water!

At dinner there was a large block of players for a “last supper”. There was even salmon on the menu!

Today we had a very early pickup at Ali Bey to go to the airport. We had booked 2 vehicles and they were large and comfortable. The only glitch was when Susan realized Christina didn’t have her backpack on and realized she left it on the bus…fortunately he came back and we (Vicky & Steve, Jenny, Susan, Christina) and I all checked in for our flight.
