Joe Bachmann won his second men’s 75 national of the year, beating Rudy Hernando (who upset #2 seeded Lester Sack in the semis)  in the final. Nick Oursoff scored a big upset in that division, winning a third set tiebreak over Herm Ahlers. Willie Wolff lost a 3-setter to Sack in the quarters, but not before giving the #2 seed a scare…Sack led 61 in the second set tiebreak and by a set before Willie rallied to win the second set. Kudos to Sack for pulling out the third despite that disappointment.

George Sarantos and Hank Leichtfried won the men’s 75 title for the second straight year, beating the tough team of Anderman/Brunkow in the final.

Neil Hurlbut won this second 80s title of the year, beating unseeded Seymour Moskowitz (new to the division) in the final. Moskowitz beat C. Kenneth Nelson in the semis; Nelson upset #2 seeded Saul Snyder, also in three sets, earlier in the week.

Jim Nelson won his 106th gold ball in men’s 80 doubles, beating the 80 Indoor champions Neal Hurlbut and Dennis Neilsen in the final.

In the 85s, Joe Russell won this second 85s singles title of the year, beating unseeded Wally Vickery in the final. He teamed with Clem Hopp to win the 85 doubles round robin.

Tony Franco continued his domination of the 90s. He beat his doubles partner, Graydon Nichols, in the final, after Nichols beat defending champion Bob Seymour in three sets in the semis; Franco received a walkover. Franco/Nichols won their second doubles title of the year too. Below, Tony and my dad; the Francos and my parents, Dad, Seymour, Tony and WT Mathes, age 95.
