Finals Set in Pelham in 55 Singles (Settles/Perez Gimenez); 65 Doubles (Boynton/Frautschi & Robertson/Thyssen); Seeds Advance in Remaining Divisions.

Draws are here.

Lori Robertson spent around seven hours on court yesterday (if you count warm up). She and Erin Boynton played a 3.5 hour match under challenging conditions, as it was very windy and sunny. Boynton edged Robertson in the first set 76, lost the second 61 and won the third 62 so the players ended up with the same number of games, but Boynton won the critical tiebreak. Both women played amazing points in the wind and for Boynton it was her first outdoor match since January. They both served really well too. Susan Wright beat Kim Dean 1,0; Tracey Thompson got past Hiko Fritz-Krokow (Mariko’s mom) and Thyssen beat Ann Young, the 3rd seed, 61 61, hitting beautifully, especially her backhand.

Robertson was allowed a two hour break after the match, so we started our doubles at 3pm and finished close to 6pm. Robertson and Terri Thyssen played an amazing third set but we served for the second twice…but there were only two holds in the second set. 46 76 61. We had some great points but they were better in the end. Boynton/Ann Frautschi beat Thompson/Dean 60 62.

Carolyn & Susan with Lori Robertson behind us.

In the 55s, which is a four person round robin, Kathy Settles and Maria Perez Giminez are both undefeated so their match today is the de-facto final.

There is a five team round robin in 5 doubles and some teams have only played one match, so they have a ways to go.

In the 75s, Sue Bramlette played a great match in losing to the crafty (drop shot queen) Toni Novack 62 36 62. The remaining seeds advanced in straight sets. Barbara Hubbard and Lesley Pixley were in a third set when Hubbard had to retire (foot problem).

The 75s doubles seeds all advanced to the semis but the #2 seeds, Kathy Bennett/Brenda Carter had to take a third set tiebreaker to edge Pam Simons/Allyson Bolduc 62 46 76. They play Gwenda Ward/Susie Peiffer and Liane Bryson/Judy Dixon (1) face Kristen Padberg/Janet Rice (4)

The 85s play the semis today, with top seeded Roz King and 2nd seeded Dorothy Wasser both advancing in straight set. The doubles is a round robin.
