Folsom Day 4: Roz King wins first Gold Ball!!!!!

Roz King and Dori deVries won the 65 doubles. They beat Roberta Sung/Norma Veal in a hard fought 3-set win. They led 53 in the first set before losing it 75, but rallied to take the final 2 sets. It was the first gold ball for King who is having a fabulous tournament. She sliced and diced her way into the 65 singles final as well, beating Norma Veal 62 61 in the semis. She faces Lyn Tietz in the final.
 
The 35 final was won 75 64 by Manola Coulter of N.M. She handed Julie Cass her first loss of the year. Cass/Michelle King were to face Coulter/Carolyn Wei in the 35 doubles final at about 5pm. In the 3/4 playoff, Jennifer Young beat Tracy Houk by default. Shelly Works faces King in the 5/6 playoff. Works played another 4 plus hour match to defeat Carolyn Wei in the consolation semis.
 
in the 45’s, Diane Fishburne played a flawless final against Susan Wright, winning 62 60. The two combined for a straight set win over Kathy Vick/Lori Robertson in the doubles final. Carolyn Nichols/Chris Ramsower-Pearlstein took the bronze over Shelly Thigpen/Linda Roland. in the consolation the marathon match of the day involved Susanne Siegler and Lori Fahrenholz who battled for hours under sunny warm skies, before Siegler won.
 
In the 55’s, the first set between Kathy Barnes and Brenda Carter lasted 2 hours. The "short" second set lasted a mere 1 hour. The match was won by Barnes, who now leads the series 2-1, Barnes having also won the semis of the clay courts and Carter having won the indoor final over Barnes. The 2 will face off tomorrow in the doubles final, Barnes partnering with Leslie Vallejo and Carter with Kathy Bennett. Barnes will play Anne Guerrant in the singles final. Guerrant beat Pat Keleman 62 75 in the singles semi.
 
The 75 singles final is a rematch of the grass court final, in which Suzanne Ryerson upset Louise Russ.
