Lyn Tietz won her first singles gold ball, edging Roz King who was attempting to double her number of gold balls by adding the singles title here to her doubles title won yesterday. Tietz won the hard fought battle 64 in the third set. Norma Veal edged Grace Woo for the bronze. deVries won the consolation final.
Louise Russ avenged one of 2 losses in the final of the 75’s. She beat Suzanne Ryerson 75 61, a reversal of the outcome of the grass court final in July. She also combined with Stephens to oust the top seeds, Angie Ray/Joyce Jones in 3 sets.
Anne Guerrant continued her 55’s domination, beating Kathy Barnes 60 64 in the final. Barnes also took home a silver in doubles, partnering with Leslie Vallejo. Kathy Bennet/Brenda Carter won the 55 doubles final in two tight sets. Carter also won the bronze over Pat Keleman. Keleman/Virginia Blanchard took the bronze in the 55 doubles with a topsy turvey win over Martha Downing/Kathy Cope, 06 64 61.
Dodo won the 85’s again…Scoggins was the runner up but partnered Dodo to a win in doubles. That completed Dodo’s 5th straight 85 doubles slam.
Shelly Works won another marathon singles match, this time over Michelle King, 64 in the third. This was a match played in good spirit, though Michelle did think the rallies went a little long for her taste.
