German Team Sweep on a Gorgeous Saturday in Essen

Today I played my second team match against a team from the Bonner Tennis & Hockey Club (the one Bunnie Jackson is playing for, though in a different division).

I first picked up Reinhilde at the train station which is near my hotel. Lots of activity on a Saturday morning and lots of people eating!

They didn’t bring all their top players and our team had a strong quartet of myself, Sabine Schmidt (fresh off a decisive tournament win in Italy), Karien Theeuwes, and Reinhilde Adams plus a strong doubles player, Desiree Haferkamp. We won the four singles matches and Karien and I teamed up to win at #1 and Desiree and Reinhilde at #2.

The ladies were really nice. Their team was just promoted to the top level of the league this year.

After tennis we had a light late lunch overlooking the Baldeneysee, which was full of sailboats, rowing sculls and more…apparently a Regatta was going on today or tomorrow.

And with that, my trip to Germany ends for this year. Great teammates, practice partners and for the most part good weather. I had a nice and relaxing time (good bread too!).

  1. I was watching the men at Hangelar! Didn’t know you were at Bonner. Congratulations. Safe travels.
