It was a really soggy day yesterday in Font de sa Cala. It rained most of the day and in the evening and night there was the loudest thunder I’d ever heard, incessant lightning and pouring rain. So when my alarm went off at 6am I changed it to 7am. It was a good call, since the courts were not ready at 9am.
The courts were really soaked and at some venues (e.g. Na Taconara where we were supposed to play) the courts were unplayable all day. However at Beach Club Font de sa Cala most courts were ready by 10am and I was on court before 11am against #4 seed Carole De Bruin from Netherlands. The courts were really really slow, almost muddy and it was quite humid, all of which conditions seemed to play to my advantage. I played a very good match and won 60 62 against a very nice and gracious opponent. Tomorrow I play #1 seeded Lisa Prechtel who is the current 60s world champion. Both Carole and Lisa are Dutch and equally tall.

Bill Moss of USA is into the semis of men’s 60s…he was supposed to be playing the semis right now but it’s raining and I hear thunder…I doubt the courts can take much more rain.
The 65s and older divisions start Sunday…
