Into the Finals in Barcelona

Draws are here.

Yesterday matches began at 6pm and it was cooler than the day before. I played Michelina Valente from Italy and won in just over an hour. She was tired from her long battle yesterday I think, but we had some great rallies. I play Kim Reed from GBR in the final. She’s unseeded but an excellent player, with a super dropshot and very good movement. She beat Rosemary Everett 62 63. Rosemary I think was also a bit tired from her long match the night before.

We won our doubles 61 60 against a tricky Spanish team…unconventional strokes but a lot of balls (and of course a fair amount of high lobs) came back. We play Reed and Africa Sanchez of Spain in the final…they took out the #2 seeds. So despite the tournament combining the 60 & 65 age divisions, two all-65+ teams have reached the final.

Rosemary and Peter Gard won the mixed without ever taking the court, with a bye, default and default. Quite unfortunate.

On the way back from practice yesterday we watched a polo player and his horse warming up/practicing on the polo field which is just behind the courts we play on.
