It was a bit of a lazy day today in Villach. I was scheduled to warm up at 8:30 and play at 11, but it was raining and wet in the morning so my match was delayed (and warm up cancelled), eventually till 1:30pm. We got on court around 1:45. I played Elizabeth Oetsch of Austria. She is a retired schoolteacher who taught mathematics and sports, not a combination we often see in the USA. I won in about an hour, then scouted my next opponent and found a warm up partner for the morning, someone I met in Helsinki who is playing in the 40s here, Aylin from Turkey. Tennis really is a small world.

My next opponent, Yvette De Roche from Switzerland plays a lot of tournaments and had a good comeback today after losing the first set 60 to win the match 62 in the third. She seems to have good results this year so I’ll hope to be ready for her.
After returning to my apartment I managed to change the return location of my rental car from Klagenfurt to Villach, which will save an hour of driving on Saturday (at a cost of 4 euros which is less than the fuel to drive to Klagenfurt would cost). I could instead drive it to Vienna, but I already have train ticket though and taking the train seems much easier.
Tomorrow I have the semis of the singles and doubles at 9 and noon, and time tomorrow to get diesel for my car and scout perhaps.
