Tina Karwasky (Glendale, CA) won gold slams in 2018 in 65 singles and doubles. She did not drop a set in winning the clay, hard, grass and indoors. For her doubles partner, Jan Kirkland-Cochran (GA) it was her first gold slam.
Oren Motevassel won the gold slam in men’s 50 singles. It was his first gold slam. In 2017 he came close but was unable to play the grass though he won the hard, clay and indoors. He says clay is his most challenging surface, but that grass is his favorite.

Jimmy Parker, fully recovered from a knee replacement, and new to the 75s, dominated the singles in that division. He also won two doubles nationals with Ken Robinson (CA), the mixed 70 Hard (with Kathy Bennett, CA), and two super senior father/son nationals with Chris Parker (CA).
Jane Luz (FL) won the 90 doubles gold slam by the narrowest of margins. She and Rita Price (CO) split the four singles nationals and easily won the first three doubles nationals. They split up for the grass and Lutz/Janet Hubbard (CA) edged Price/Harrison 12-10 in the match tiebreak to win the gold and for Lutz to complete the gold slam.
Congratulations everyone!
In the last sentence, it should be “and for Lutz, to complete the gold slam.”
