Karwasky, Price Win Double Gold at Chamisal, Dailey Completes Gold Slam

Tina Karwasky in the 55s and Rita Price in the 85s joined Dori deVries in winning the singles and doubles at Chamisal on Friday.

Price won her second singles title of the year, beating Elaine Mason in the final, and combined with Joyce Liverpol to thwart Cathie Hall and Mason’s quest for a second Gold Slam, beating them 64 in the third.

Karwasky beat Nichols in a 3 1/2 hour marathon 57 64 64, then combined with Mary Ginnard to win the doubles over Nichols/Tracy Viebrock. Chris Ramsower-Pearlstein took the bronze in singles and doubles (with Jan Kirkland Cochran.

Kelly Pace dominated the 35 singles, winning her second singles title of the year. Mary Dailey/Erika Smith won the 35 doubles, the final of which was unfortunately a default (Pace had to attend a wedding rehearsal). That completed a 35s doubles Gold Slam for Mary Dailey, who won all 4 doubles titles despite having knee surgery mid-season.

Mariana Hollman and JJ Joseph won the 45 doubles over Dailey/Smith 76 in the third. The two teams split the 45 doubles titles this year.

Brenda Carter added the 65 doubles title to the singles title she won yesterday, finishing the year with 3 national singles titles and two doubles golds.
