Lima Day 5: Waiting to Play

Draws are here.

Wednesday in Lima…it’s actually the 5th day of the tournament…I think I will play tomorrow…there are three days left and I am in the singles quarters, so….but with 773 entrants and fewer than 20 courts, it’s understandable, if frustrating!

The weather is still wintry for Peru, in the mid-60s, mild but misty and the sun is a distant memory! It feels very much like San Diego in December except there’s no expectation of rain this week.

I hit early…got to the club at 6:30 but today members were on the courts till 7am. I was hitting with Pepin from Canada and Simone Vasconcellos and Monica Yanagi from Brazil joined us…after warming up a bit they asked us to play doubles and we got in a set before getting bumped at 7:45. It was less drizzly than yesterday which was nice. The courts were a bit bumpy…I haven’t played singles since Saturday so I hope all goes well tomorrow!

After hitting I did my workout and then in the afternoon Toni Novack and I went to the touristy shops near Kennedy Park. I got a scarf and Toni got some gifts…lots of alpaca…or products purported to be alpaca (many of which I think were synthetics or a cotton mix…maybe made in China, who knows) were on display plus a lot of silver jewelry. But it was fun tot look around and not crowded.

Dinner at the club tonight, then an early night before another 6:30 am warm up!
