Phyllis Adler: 1924-2024

Phyllis Adler, a Southern California icon, a tall woman with red hair, a sharp mind and a graceful tennis came passed away May 22, 2024, just months shy of her 100th birthday. I knew Phyllis as a friend of my parents who were a similar age, and spoke to her a few times in the past couple of years. Her mind was as clear as ever and every conversation was a treat.

Here is a very nice article about Phyllis written by Steve Pratt.

A few outstanding items from the article:

  • She won 58 gold balls beginning in her 40s and the last in her 90s.
  • She is a member of the USTA SoCal Senior Tennis Hall of Fame and the So Cal Sports Jewish Hall of Fame

Her son Doug Adler played tennis at USC and has worked as an analyst at Tennis Channel and ESPN.
