Lugano

Draws are here.

Today I started by leaving the hotel at 3:30, took a taxi to the airport, then a flight to Zurich then a train (2 trains to be accurate) to Lugano, then another taxi ride to get to my studio apartment for the week. So I took plane, trains and automobiles to get here. It about 8.5 hours door to door. The train ride to Lugano passed through gorgeous scenery, lakes, valleys, with mountains in the background. I had a good view of the mountaintops and Zurich from the plane too.

After putting my bags in the storage room (with help from someone who opened the door for me), I walked first to the little Migros market by the gas station, one of the few stores open in Lugano on a Sunday, and got a little food and drink before heading over to the tennis club to see what was going on (not much other than people eating at the restaurant…and 2 guys hitting casually). I sat down to text Leanne Swaysland with whom I am playing doubles this week, and before I finished the message, in walk Leanne and Wayne Swaysland.

We chatted, took a short walk and then parted ways. I picked up a few more items for dinner, then walked back to my apartment to wait for 3pm when I could get into it (there’s a nice lounge downstairs, and someone buzzed me in fortunately).

I had no access to watch Wimbledon but listened to the match on Wimbledon radio which was pretty exciting, though nothing compared to last year.

I washed all my clothes…hand washing them only gets them so clean, especially since the seal wasn’t good at the hotel. And it was very humid in Barcelona.

I play tomorrow at 5:30, and Leanne and I are going to hit in the afternoon.
