Men’s 90, 85 Doubles Champions Crowned at the National Hard Courts

Bob Sherman won the 90 singles at Morgan Run, ending WT Mathes’ run with a straight sets performance on Court 1 at Morgan Run. He then teamed up with Marvin Henderson to beat Carleton/Anderson in the doubles final. Alex Swetka took the singles bronze.

The 85 men’s doubles final (and first round) went the distance, with Roald Flater/Don Tobey edging George Druliner/Ed Tyler in three tense sets.

The top four seeds in the 75s, Herm Ahlers, Lester Sack, Bob Duesler and Larry Sears advanced to the semis of the singles. Sack had to go 3 sets to oust Buddy Lomax, but won the third set 6-0. The top seeds in doubles, Doss/Powless and Duesler/Jim Nelson advanced easily to the final.

In the 80s, George McCabe and Russell Seymour, the remaining seeds, won without trouble to reach the semis. They will face off in the doubles final too, although both Chang/Seymour and McCable/Olson were unseeded. It will be a rematch of the indoor final from last week, won by McCable/Olson.

Ahlers-3 Bob Seymour-2 Curry, Jim Duesler, Bob-1 Jerry Thomas-4 Seymour, Russell-2 Snyder, Saul-3 Swetka Vickery, Wally-5 Wayne and his partner Wayne Hipp
