Monday Evening Update, Manavgat

There were 3 American teams in action at Manvgat today: It was extremely windy all day.
 
The Italia Cup, Men’s 35s (USA) won its opening match against Ireland. Curtis Dunn played a 2 set marathon to start the procedings, and won, and Juan Carlos Parker wrapped up the win, with a straight set win at #1 singles, powering through the wind with his fine serve and ground strokes.
 
The USA Lenglen Cup team also won decisively over Turkey, with Julie Cass winning at #1 singles, Jessica Schlotterback at #2 singles and Michelle King/Carolyn Wei taking the doubles point.
 
The USA Young Cup team didn’t fare as well. The 2-time defending champions fell to a tough So African team. Mariana Hollman lost at #2 singles, but battled hard in the 2nd set, rallying from 1-3 down to force a tiebreaker, before falling 7-5.
 
Gretchen Magers won in straight sets at #1 singles but the So Africans took the doubles point over Magers/Rhona Kaczmarczyk.
 
The remaining American teams and the USA Court Cup team had byes today. More tomorrow…
