Today was the warmest yet in Palm Beach Gardens…high of 81 (about 27-28 Celsius), but quite windy, and very sunny…pleasant weather but tough playing conditions. The singles finals were chaired which was nice, and the winners and finalists received checks as prizes.

I played at 9:30 against Pat Purcell and won 64 62 in a 2 hour match. Touch opponent and tough conditions. At one point Pat took a short injury time out to attend to a blister and I saw the 80s on the adjacent court playing, Betty Wachob and Sue Kimball..Betty was hitting into the wind and hitting deeper than I was, and she’s a petite, slender woman. So I tried to emulate her and hit deeper as well. Sue Kimball won the 80s singles today 63, 64, playing strongly despite the wind!

Susan Wright and Tisha Kilburn, the top two seeds, have reached the final with straight set wins, Susan over Andrea Askowitz and Tisha over Leslie Wargo.

In doubles Erin Boynton/Adrienne Simmons beat Sue Kaleel/Kristen Charlton 64 62 to win the 50s; Christina Kaus/Susan Wright beat Jenny Klitch and me by the same score (they played great) and Purcell/Jan Cochran beat Cindy LePrevost/Becky Timmis in three sets to win the 70 doubles 36 75 61.
